Many people have asked us about purchasing whole animals from River Cottage Farm, and we’re happy to say that we are now in a position to start selling wholesale, which is what this amounts to in real dollar terms.
When purchasing a whole animal, you purchase your meat in bulk and truly get to eat nose to tail! We will help you plan the cuts your family enjoys, and you decide how you want your steaks, etc., cut and packaged. On this page, we’ll walk you through the process and help you understand what you need to know to take advantage of these great savings.

When you purhase our meats, whether by the animal or by the cut, you’re getting the same amazing quality with each and every purchase.

How it Works
- Decide which Beef Share best fits your family, whether its 1/4, 1/2 or a whole steer.
- Click on the icon next to the share that best suits your needs and check out online.
- Pay your deposit in full when you pick up your beef. We’ll send you an invoice as soon as we pick it up at the butcher.
- Come to River Cottage Farm and pick up your order or pick up at one of our drop-off sites, or at our farmer’s markets.
- Enjoy your delicious 100% Grass-fed AND Grass-finished Beef!
Beef Shares What you get
1/4 Share
Approximately 88 - 92 lbs- The Quarter Beef Share. It will fit inside a small 5 cubic feet chest freezer. Quarter shares can not be custom cut. Our butcher will not package up a custom order for a quarter steer so we will divide a half into quarters.

- 3.5 lbs NY Strip Steak
- 3,5 lbs Sirloin Steak
- 4 lbs Rump Roast
- 3.5 lbs Sirloin Tip Roast
- 2 lbs Flat Iron Steak

Whole Steer
Approximately 355-370 lbs- Whole animals are cut to your specifications. The cuts below are representative of what you might select, but each order is uniquely chosen by you. It will fit inside a large 20-25 cubic feet chest freezer. These weights are approximate depending on how you decide to cut your steaks.

Approximately 180 -190 lbs- This share gets you a full side of beef. Your side can be cut to your specifications, but the cuts below are representative of how we cut our RCF Beef. It will fit inside a medium (about 10 cf) chest freezer. These weights are approximate as it depends on how you decide to cut your steaks and if you choose all of these cuts.
