These are the oats we use for oatmeal. My family is ultra picky about oatmeal – not horse feed, not wallpaper paste – See our recipe and tips below.
Our steel cut oats are run through the mill as you order.
1 cup steel cut oasts
2 tbs butter
3 cups boiling water
1 cup milk
pinch of salt
toppings (fruit and nuts)
Melt butter and toast oats until you can smell the oats toasting. Add water and milk and stir. Cook on low until the thickness of sausage gravy before you add the pinch of salt. Do not stir with anything other than the handle of a wooden spoon and only to keep the oatmeal from sticking to the bottom of the pot. When the oatmeal is thick enough leave, uncovered, to stand at least five minutes and serve with toppings.
